Guilloche Roman 40

Approximate Period 1690 - 1860

The art of guilloche, named after the Frenchman "Guillot", in one of the great moments of watchmaking. Invented in the 16th century the craft was developed by guilloche engine in the 17th century. When the guilloche dial or movement is clamped and using the guilloche engine engraves a pattern. The Guilloche is a lathe and snail-shaped pattern is cut. The watchmaker has to be very careful that the pattern can be applied to the smallest detail to the dial. Depending on how you assemble and operate the guilloche, different patterns can be produced. It was made famous by the then French watch maker Abraham Louis Breguet, since the mid-18th century they have built pocket watches exclusively with guilloche dials and blued steel hands. Since 1900, the craft of guilloche is almost extinct. Today there are only a handful of people in the world who know the craft and possess the over a hundred year old antique machines.

In order to offer these beautiful watches at affordable prices, Tourby has machine-made guilloché dials, where modern CNC milling the pattern engraving on the dial. All models have flame-blued steel hands after the 250 year old tradition. The cases are 40.5 mm wide and only 8.75 mm high. Two sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating to give a clear view of the beautiful details of the watch. The Swiss ETA Unitas 6498 manually wound movement is avaliable in different stages of finishing. The design is rounded off by a genuine Louisiana alligator strap, tang buckle and a high quality leather box.
