Lawless 42

We present our second diving watch with the name "Lawless". Our project is supported again by Brendan Lawless a professional diver and dive watch enthusiast.

The showpiece of the watch is the stamped steel case back. It is unique in the watch industry to apply such an intricate design in stainless steel using a process normally found on much softer brass coins. It is a very deep engraving of the image creating a 3D effect. Our case manufacturers faced a very difficult task with the extremely high costs to produce such a complicated design. The cost of the engraved caseback base exceeds 5-times the cost of a normal steel case back. Although this type engraved case back has never been tried before, we ventured in to this project so as not to come up with "any" dive watch on the market but to create something new and independent. We consider the design as with all of our watches, very simple and timeless.

The construction of the watch case and the steel bracelet were completley designed by Tourby Watches, we wanted to design a unique piece with parts that could not be found with other maufactures. This design is exclusive to Tourby Watches with the case and the steel bracelet designed so that the watch perfectly fits the wrist without any gaps between the watch and the wrist. The watch case and the steel bracelet brush finish is applied in our Hagen workshops. The teeth of the crown are also again brushed or polished so that they do not cause pressure on the wearers wrist. Using only a 3.1mm thick steel band saves a lot of weight, without compromising the robust feel or functionality. Although the bracelet relies on a well known style we have completely redesigned it. We have greatly improved it to offer maximum comfort to, the width of the steel bracelet tapers from 22 mm to 18 mm at the clasp. The thickness of the links is reduced from 3.5 mm to 3.3 mm then to 3.1 mm, so that the bracelet better suits the 13 mm thick case. Standard bracelets which are straight and have the same thickness throughout are simple to manufacture, this makes the Tourby steel band more than twice as high with the accociated tooling costs. These small details are extremely costly in production but enormously contribute to the comfort of the watch. Finally, the watch must not just wear great during the begining "trial basis" but should still be comfortable and suitable for everyday wearing after years of use. By using drilled lugs changing bands is quick and easy. The rubber strap is specially designed to perfectly fit this case and hugs the wrist perfectly. Again Tourby Watches has not resorted back to standard rubber bands. The watch will delivered in a very high quality and sturdy leather box.

The dials are produced by a reputable manufacturer in Germany and come with raised indexes (appliques). These appliques are painted by hand and placed by hand. Dials like these cost 5 times that of standard dials which are only printed. The appliques are not glued as dials from Asia are. Instead each applique is hand set. There are twice as many dials produced as needed and from these we choose the best examples.

The watch hands are made by a reputable manufacturer in Switzerland

A notice:

Please only clean the bezel of the Lawless with a white cloth. If colored cloths are used frequently, discolouration may occur on the bezel. Discolouration can be easily removed with a gentle solution and a soft toothbrush, but it won't even happen with a white cloth.

Live Pictures

Even if it looks less professional on a official website, you can only see the quality of the watches from live-pictures. All watches look great on official product images. Even the cheap ones. But in order to get an accurate feeling of the watches, you have to hold them in your hand. These often have a completely different effect. However, since our customers mostly order online and cannot view the watches beforehand, our pictures must be as authentic as possible.

The case back

The showpiece of the watch is the stamped steel case back. It is a first in the watchmaking industry to apply this intricate engraving to the hard stainless steel with such great detail. The very deep engraving creates a kind of 3D character of the image. We gave our case maker a very difficult task and accepted the extremely high cost to produce this intricate engraving. The cost of the engraved back is 5 times the cost of a normal steel back. Although this type of engraving has never been tried before, we took on this project not to come out with just any diving watch, but to create something new and original. However, as with all our watches, we keep the design very simple and timeless.
